Bideford And District Angling Club - Our Story

Bideford & District Angling Club was formed in 1964 by Tackle Shop Owner Cyril Petherick, starting out as a few anglers coming together to do what they love. Little did they know that it would grow into the thriving Fishing Club it is today! 

Our dedicated members enjoy meeting often for a variety of different events and activities. Passion and enthusiasm go hand-in-hand with everything we do and our door is always open to new members of all experience levels. On the whole, we’re proud to bring together people from all over Bideford and beyond.

Managing the Club was a complete nightmare.

We used to offer our members a number of different ways to pay so that we could appeal to all preferences, for example, older anglers generally prefer to pay by cash whereas some of our younger anglers prefer paying by card. However, accepting so many different payment types was a nightmare to keep track of.

We had people paying online, by cash and sometimes even by bank transfer, so it was a manual job trying to consolidate all of these methods of payment into one area. Then came the added job of trying to match the payment up to the member. It created a lot of headaches for the committee and we knew something needed to change.

Why we chose Clubmate.

The goal was to use Clubmate to manage all of our incoming payments from one place and to get the majority of our members paying online, which would make it easier for our treasurer to do their job. We also wanted an easier way to stay in contact with our members because emailing each angler on an individual basis when we needed to send out an update took far too much time.

Clubmate saves me and our Treasurer a lot of time.

Clubmate’s customer service level is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble, any challenges are always resolved quickly.

Using their fishing club management software has saved us so much time when it comes to chasing members and you can email them directly from the system in a few clicks. As Club Secretary, this is my personal favourite feature because I can very easily contact individuals, groups of members or even all of our members at once. 

Switching to an online system has saved loads of unnecessary paperwork. We’ve moved away from paper sign-up forms because we use Clubmate’s online joining and it means that when we sign up new members or renew existing memberships, we can direct them to Clubmate and it takes them through the process. 

Every membership payment is automatically logged in the angler’s profile so there’s no need for manual reconciliation, and we can even use Clubmate’s membership reports to get insight on how the club is performing. This along with all of the other reporting available comes in particularly useful during committee meetings.

Aside from the software itself, we really enjoy being part of the Clubmate Community. Their company is run by fellow anglers, so they truly understand how fishing clubs operate and they genuinely care about seeing us do well.

Yes, I’d recommend Clubmate. It saves me and our treasurer a lot of time and keeps everything in one place.
