GJ Fisheries Manchester - Our Story

GJ Fisheries is a hidden gem nestled in the scenic outskirts of Manchester. Our ponds are not just bodies of water; they are thriving ecosystems where the health and well-being of our fish take centre stage. Anglers wanted to pay by debit card.

Before using Clubmate, issuing season tickets was a very messy process. We relied on our local tackle shop to hold cards and self-laminating wallets with a ledger to be filled with names and contact details – which was rarely done properly! We tried to hold AGMs in a local pub but soon found that in this day and age, getting people to attend on the same evening was literally impossible.

That meant that selling via the shop was the only option to allow anglers to purchase tickets from March through to September, which naturally put a limit on our income. I also started to see a rise in anglers wanting to pay by debit card or even with their smartphones using Apple Pay on the bank, so I knew I had to modernise our approach.

Why we chose Clubmate.

I wanted a way to issue angling tickets, store angler records digitally, and accept payments online to help with bookkeeping.

So, I booked an online meeting with Ian and even after first speaking to him and having him answer all of my questions, I knew Clubmate would help with everything we needed.

Clubmate has given me back the time to focus on running the fishery.

There have been no obstacles whatsoever since signing up. Clubmate have done everything they promised to and more; their service is, and continues to be, first-class and from speaking to the team I can see things will only keep getting better. I dealt with Rob daily and he was (and still is!) happy to provide any support we might need.

I like that Clubmate automatically matches up the ticket payment to the member because it essentially does my accounts for me. It’s saved me so much time and it’s a relief to know that anglers can book their tickets 24/7 and aren’t limited to when the tackle shop is open. Most importantly, Clubmate has given me back time to focus on managing my waters because it does all of my admin for me. 

It’s easy to use and simple to make changes, but probably the best part is the customer service: it’s amazing, I’ve never experienced anything like it. Their team is on hand whenever I’ve needed them and my questions are always answered quickly. On top of that, their team are all keen anglers and I’m looking forward to seeing some of them on the bank this summer!

Would I recommend Clubmate?

Yes, I’d recommend Clubmate. Admin is a massive part of managing a fishery but nobody likes doing it. Clubmate takes that side of my job almost completely away from me, giving me more time to concentrate on managing the fishery.
